True Blood on Twitter Holiday Writing Contest

October 23, 2011

True Blood on Twitter invites you to participate in our second writing contest. If you have ever imagined that you could write a scene for some of your favorite True Blood™ characters, this is your opportunity.

The holidays are approaching and provide the perfect setting for your story to take place.  Here is some background to help get you started:

King Bill has decided to hold a charity holiday party to foster goodwill between Humans and Vampires.  In keeping with Bill and Eric working as a team, the King has asked Eric to co-host the party with him and  has also pulled Sookie in to be the hostess to provide the Human touch, thereby continuing the “triangle” that was present all through Season 4

Our premise will be Eric’s recent memory loss has stirred up his real life memories coupled with Sookie’s rejection causing him to want to go “home” in solitude for the holidays.  Sookie is going to come up with incorporating the Norse theme of Jul (Yule) into the party in order to keep Eric there to help them.

For information about the Norse Jul celebration:

Create your True Blood holiday story using the background setup we have provided and the theme of Jul. It can take place just before the party starts, during the event or immediately after. This is a celebration of new beginnings and endings, what might that mean in the world of True Blood? Could something happen that increases tension between Sookie, Bill and Eric? Does something or someone go wrong at the party? Is our Vampire/Faerie triangle mysteriously transported to days of old and a real Viking Jul celebration? Does everyone live happily ever after? Wait, this is Bon Temps we are talking about, that would never happen. Only you know what you want to unfold and this is your chance to tell us all.

(Performance disclaimer: Characters other than the three mentioned in our setup can be used but are subject to availability for actual Twitter performance).

Our panel of judges will choose first, second and third place winners from the submissions and True Blood on Twitter group members will act out the winning story, live on Twitter, as a special holiday event.

First place prize is a signed Alexander Skarsgard print by Kristin Bauer van Straten.  Runner up prizes will also be awarded for second and third place winners.

Good luck and we look forward to reading your entries.

Eric NorthmanViking turned Vampire over 1100 years ago – now the Sheriff and authority of Area 5 (Northern Louisiana).  Co-owner and operator of Fangtasia in Shreveport, the premier Vampire bar in North America with his often insubordinate progeny Pam.  Viewed by some as evil and often associated with the terms calculating, cold, confident, arrogant, ruthless and deceitful.

Judging Coordinator
Arlene Fowler hustles burgers as a waitress in Merlotte’s. She was previously engaged to a crazed serial killer who was murdered by her friend when he attempted to kill her too. Now married for the fifth time to Terry Bellefleur, they’re raising three children…  Lisa, Coby and Mikey.  Arlene is also a member of the True Blood on Twitter Group.

Bathsheba Rocks ~A 50 something fanfic writer and reader who probably should know better.  She’s based in Bristol in the southwest of England and first got into True Blood when Season 1 was shown there.  That introduced her to fan fiction and to the mainly wonderful, sometimes exasperating community who write, promote and support it.  If there were more hours in the day she’d be tempted to spend them writing, but her Other Half does demand some attention, so when she’s not working or pursuing her favorite hobby they enjoy music, walking, cycling, camping and going to the Pub.

Brandee~ is the head librarian at the Bon Temps Public Library.  The library specializes in hard-to-find information for human and supe patrons in Bon Temps and most of Louisiana.

Char~ Is a lover of  photography, and anything creative which is why she started writing for Fan Fic.  She also enjoys graphic design.  She has  a strong nurturing side which she fulfills in her “real life” career.  Even though Char considers herself a SVM  “bookie,” she has come to appreciate True Blood as a separate creative endeavor simply heavily  influenced by the books.   She is an Eric Northman fan, and believes Alexander Skarsgard has done a fantastic job of bringing this character to life with his own “twist” which is why she started following True Blood on Twitter.  She is currently the  hostess for the TB  Fangover Chats.

Dee Dee~ Is a 32-year-old archivist, writer, web addict, and crazy cat lady. She lives in Mississippi, where she works in the library at Mississippi State. A decided “bookie,” she also enjoys True Blood. Her other favorites are Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Firefly, The Office, and Bones. She runs and its weekly Blog Talk Radio show, Dead Air.

Pam Ravenscroft~(aka Pamela Swynford De Beaufort) Pam is the Vampire child and Second in Command of Eric Northman, Area 5 Sheriff of Louisiana. Originally from London, Pam has spent over a century with her Maker and currently is co-owner of Shreveport’s premier Vampire bar, Fangtasia. Often thought of as cold and heartless, Pam takes great pride in being perpetually bored, fiercely loyal and appreciative of well made shoes. Pam is currently single, and will remain that way, however donors are always welcome to apply. Pam is a member of True Blood on Twitter.

Thrya 10~Thyra10`s husband will forever regret the day he came home from his job at a Norwegian television network carrying a DVD with the two first episodes of “some new series about vampires” and a bottle of True Blood. Thyra10 watched the episodes and was hooked while her husband rolled his eyes and found better things to do. Charlaine Harris` books were found and read before episode three of True Blood and – when Charlaine Harris insists on not writing a book a week – Thyra10 found her way to Fanfiction where she started out reading and later writing her own stories. Thyra10 is Danish but lives in Norway and most of her stories take place in Scandinavia. When asked if she is “Team Bill” or “Team Eric” she will claim that she`s “Team Sookie” but everyone knows her passion for anything connected to the Viking age. Her nickname is an homage to Viking queen Thyra Danebod – the first queen of Denmark and one of Thyra10`s heroines. Thyra10 has two children, a dog and runs a PR agency.

We’re looking for a holiday story that can take place before the King’s party starts (something happening during final preparations), during the party or immediately after the party.

Why is it so Eric centered? It comes from an EL page, or why? ? Have no interest in writing about Eric. When it comes time to write about Bill, I stand first in line ….

The contest is sponsored by Eric but centered on the party and the triangle of Bill, Eric and Sookie. There should be a lot to work with given the party setting and we look forward to reading from all angles.
